about

This song deserves some explanation. This song is based on a true story, and was written directly after the event in question. It was intended to be a clear statement against people who use such slurs as insults. In the seven years since this song was recorded, however, I've gained some sensitivity about using slurs like this as somebody with straight male privilege, regardless of context. I wouldn't write a song like this so carelessly at this point in my life. It is my hope that the sentiment in this song still comes through as clearly as I'd intended it, but I recognize that it is not my place to make such determinations. I hope you will let me know and forgive me if this song crosses a line. Thank you.

lyrics

I rode my ten speed bike today
eastbound looped around the sun was going down
down main towards college ave
looped around the campus roads passed the bank and headed home
I wore my pink t-shirt
my bitchin' bitchin' pink t-shirt
my Of Montreal pink t-shirt oh yeah
I rode my ten speed bike today
up the hill towards the Citgo not very much further to go
I guess that I looked gay
wearing my pink t-shirt my very very pink t-shirt
cause when I passed the Citgo
some girl rolled down her window
and as I passed her car here's what she said
she called me a fag
and I've never been
quite so sad as when
I realized tonight that she would never be my friend
and those guys in the backseat with their ICP CD collections
will probably not load them to me
cause she called me a fag
